DIE WEIẞE ROSE from which this piece takes its name, was an intellectual anti-Nazi resistance movement in the early years of WWII. This small brave group wrote, printed and initially distributed their pamphlets in the greater Munich region. Later on, secret carriers brought copies to other cities, mostly in the southern parts of Germany. The white rose has since become a symbol of peaceful resistance against authoritarianism, Nazism and Fascism.

Drawing on the visual language of historic European decorative arts, the florals, sourced from the German Wallpaper Museum in Kassel, referencing early paper-based wallpapers and the restrained techniques of 18th- and 19th- century design. Free from later embellishments, the imagery reflects a time when pattern, pigment and symbolism carried quiet authority. The off-white florals sit against a Thuringian Blue Background, evoking yesteryear interiors and inherited taste. emerge.
