PIGMENT INKS ON JAPANESE KOZO PAPER
SHIPPING FROM 30TH OCTOBER
For the last six months, Magnus Gjoen has immersed himself in the world of Ukiyo-e - the vivid woodblock prints that flourished during Japan’s Edo period, celebrating life’s fleeting pleasures and the beauty of impermanence. In his latest work, Gjoen turns this tradition on its head. Hand-drawn and printed on delicate Kozo paper, he replaces serene landscapes with the shocking spectacle of a nuclear blast - a haunting symbol of power, and fragility. By colliding the elegance of Edo artistry with the brutality of modern warfare, Gjoen compels us to confront the thin line between creation and destruction. The piece stands as both a reflection on beauty and a stark, necessary reminder: such devastation must never happen again.
