AND DARKNESS LOOKED BACK KINDLY, two unique works on paper are built as a pair of still life’s. Each image shows two floral compositions, but split into two versions; one in black, the other in colour - both reversals of the same two images. They play off each other, with details shifting depending on how you look at them. The scribbles are there to disrupt the perfection. While the engraving is slow, careful, and fixed, the graphite pencil marks are quick, messy, and human. They stop the image from feeling too polished and bring it back into the present.
