And Darkness Looked Back Kindly is built as a pair of mirrored still lifes. Each image shows the same composition, but split into two versions; one in black, the other in colour. They play off each other, with details shifting depending on how you look at them.
 
The scribbles are there to disrupt the perfection.
While the engraving is slow, careful, and fixed. The pencil marks are quick, messy, and human. They stop the image from feeling too polished and bring it back into the present.
