Magnus Gjoen's Eau De Magnus is a bold fusion of heritage, design, and contemporary culture. Inspired by the delicate beauty of porcelain, the work reimagines one of history's most prized luxury materials in the form of an everyday object: a can of water. Adorned with intricate motifs reminiscent of 18th-century French porcelain, the piece juxtaposes the fragility and rarity traditionally associated with fine ceramics against the simplicity and utility of drinking water.
At its core, the duo explores the paradox of value. Porcelain, once worth more than gold and prized by royalty, is inherently fragile, while water, essential to all life, has long been taken for granted despite becoming an increasingly scarce resource in many parts of the world. By combining these two symbols, Gjoen invites viewers to reconsider what society chooses to protect, consume, and cherish.
